Driver vacancies by licence class
The licence class decides which listings you can take. Filter on it first, then compare pay.
Licence classes in practice
- LMV — cars, small goods vehicles, most personal driving roles.
- LMV-TR — commercial passenger transport.
- HMV — heavy goods and buses.
- Hazardous goods endorsement for fuel and chemical transport.
What changes the pay
Night duty, outstation trips, and hazard endorsements pay more. Personal driver roles often include food and stay, which can matter more than the headline salary.
Questions worth asking
- Is the vehicle owned by the employer or a contractor?
- Who pays for fuel, tolls and parking?
- What are the duty hours, and is night driving required?
- Is there a helper, and who loads the vehicle?
- What is the accident and damage policy?
Documents
A valid licence, Aadhaar, PAN, a bank account, and often a police verification. Some employers run a driving test before confirming.
Questions people ask
Can I apply with a learner's licence?
Rarely. Employers require a full licence for the class of vehicle, and insurers usually require it too.
Is outstation work paid extra?
Usually, as a daily allowance or a trip rate. The listing states whether it applies to the role.
